We serve residents throughout the hamlets and villages that make up the Town of Southampton. Our primary objectives are:
  •  Assist in providing greater housing opportunities for both rental and homeownership.
  • Preserve and improve existing affordable housing.
  • Pursue opportunities to develop additional mixed-income housing.
  • Provide safe, secure affordable rental housing and prepare residents for future homeownership.
  • Educate the community on all facets of homeownership as an ambassador for first-time homebuyers

From the Executive Director,

The Town of Southampton Housing Authority (TSHA) has made great strides in transitioning into a new executive administration. Our new beginnings started with recruiting a diverse group of Commissioners with a wide range of skill sets and professional experiences. At present, the makeup of the TSHA Board of Commissioners includes an attorney, a successful marketing executive, a former Southampton Village Trustee, and a successful local entrepreneur. The TSHA also has a non-profit development corporation with a Board of Directors consisting of an architect, a community advocate, and all of the TSHA Board of Commissioners. The initial reaction of this new diverse lineup boosted creativity and birthed a fresh new vision. The TSHA modified its logo to represent the change in the organization. Through the use of bold colors, we hope to illustrate the energetic role the TSHA plans to play within our towns, villages, and hamlets of Southampton Town. The TSHA has also launched its own Facebook page to promote and highlight the achievements of the organization, as well as to display upcoming events or housing opportunities throughout our communities.

The core of the TSHA has been its work administering the Housing Choice Voucher and the Community Development Block Grant Programs under contract with the Town of Southampton. Additionally, the TSHA owns and operates a thirty-seven-unit, project-based, senior and disabled housing facility on a five-acre site in Hampton Bays. The TSHA developed nine single-family affordable homes, which were transferred to the Town of Southampton by the County of Suffolk under the 72H program. Each parcel has been developed and sold to residents. In addition, the TSHA was designated three lots by the Village of Southampton on which to build and sell three single-family workforce homes on Bailey Road. This opportunity opened the door for TSHA to create a unique partnership with local contractors and vendors who volunteered services and provided material at a reduced cost. TSHA also owns and has rehabilitated an abandoned single-family home on Ludlam Ave, Riverside, NY, which is now occupied by participants in the HCV program.

Our most recent projects to date are the 28-unit affordable multi-family development located on Sandy Hollow Cove and a 38-unit 100% workforce mixed-use development proposed for 41 North Phillips Ave, Speonk, NY. The TSHA partnered with Georgica Green Ventures, LLC., a private developer, to create an attractive multi-generational complex in keeping with the rural character of our community. Both developments have been awarded funding through New York State Homes and Community Renewal and the County of Suffolk.

These projects demonstrate the TSHA’s capability to create opportunities for members of our community who find it challenging to find attainable housing.

Sincerely,

Curtis Highsmith

TSHA Executive Director
